Urban Indian Health Institute
A Division of the Seattle Indian Health Board
Urban Indian Health Institute (UIHI) is leading the way in research and data for urban American Indian and Alaska Native communities. As a Public Health Authority and one of 12 Tribal Epidemiology Centers in the country—and the only one that serves Urban Indian Health Programs nationwide—UIHI conducts research and evaluation, collects and analyzes data, and provides disease surveillance to strengthen the health of American Indian and Alaska Native communities.
Our services include:
- Provide technical assistance for other TECs and organizations
- Fulfill data requests for partners and legislators
- Offer trainings on indigenous research and evaluation
- Develop informational materials regarding a variety of health-related topics
- Conduct and participate in culturally rigorous research
American Indians and Alaska Natives were once the healthiest people in these lands, but as a direct result of colonization, they now suffer from some of the worst health disparities in the United States.
Urban Indian Health Institute is decolonizing data to ensure that Native communities have access to accurate data that better reflects the unique cultures, traditions, and health needs of urban Indian communities.
We recognize research, data, and evaluation as indigenous values, and by doing so, we are able to produce the best and most accurate data to strengthen the health of Native people.
